Prof. Junsuk Rho (Professor)

Prof. Rho is an Assistant Professor who joined Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), with a double appointment in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering with designated emphasis in Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley (2013). Prior joining POSTECH, he conducted postdoctoral research in Materials Sciences Division & Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Prof. Rho has authored and co-authored more than 10 high-impact journal papers including Science, Nature Materials, Nature Photonics and Nature Communications. His work has been introduced and widely covered by media such as IEEE Spectrum, LBL News, Science Daily, IOP Physics World, Photonics Spectra, YTN News, Korea Times, Korea Economic Daily and Seoul Economic Daily. He is also the recipients of several notable honors and awards such as OSK Young Investigator Award, MRS graduate student award, SPIE scholarships in optics and photonics, OSA Incubic/Milton Chang Award, Samsung Lee Kun-Hee fellowship and Argonne Named fellowship from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Rho’s research group is not only developing a new concept of novel optical nanomaterials having extraordinary and unprecedented eletromagnetic properties based on fundamental physics and experimental studies of deep sub-wavelength light-matter interaction, but also realizing engineering device applications including, but not limited to, super-resolution imaging, negative index materials, tunable high refractive index metasurface, highly efficient light trapping device, ultra-sensitive biomedical sensor, nanoscale laser, and next generation scalable nanomanufacturing methodologies.
